As usual, in the summer, my painting days have been a bit sporadic, but when I've had moments they have been so enjoyable. And I continue to be delighted by what the process reveals on canvas and in my head as bits and pieces of thoughts that might not otherwise be joined are connected.
I'm really starting to feel like I'm getting to understand the medium I like best - these amazing Dale-Rowney FW Acrylic Inks.
And that old adage about practice? Well, I'm all about the practice part - maybe not so much the perfect part - but the art and related successes of making time for whatever you're practicing certainly holds true over and over for me.
And in letting go of 'perfect' and really letting the paint be crazy and flowy I end up with so much more than I ever hope for!
Sometimes I just use the ink dropper and paint with that - and then these little bubbles of ink show up and leave perfect circles in the marks...which just leaves me relishing in the unexpected.
I've been plugging away at smaller scales too.
I'm looking forward to refreshing my etsy shop with some fall colored pendant tile necklaces.
My inner 1972 is very apparent. Olive green, bright orange, and mustard yellow...I've decided that they are really nice colors together so I'm embracing my cultural baggage with avacado colored appliances.
And then there are these - my kitchen garden collage pieces.
I love making these so much. And the results are amazing. But they take a little more time and careful work so they tend to get a bit neglected - but they're always there waiting patiently for me until I can revisit and finish them.
As August is winnowing away, I'm starting to look forward to fall and some exciting ideas and events. There will be a show in November, and I'm doing some more serious thinking about the best ways to grow my art practice.
Because there are kind of a million. But they're probably not all the best at the same time, so for once I'm trying to be strategic about my travel plans on this sweet journey.
I hope you're relishing and enjoying these summer days and residual warmth and glow of the sweet summer sun. And that maybe it inspires you to do whatever brings introspection and related revelations that seem right.
